According to web-wide sources Guinness, maker of Ireland’s famous dark-brown brew, is offering one lucky winner a chance to fly into space with Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic.
Construction has already started on New Mexico’s Virgin Spaceport, and the spacecraft and carrier plane duo are currently being developed. The four-jet carrier, WhiteKnightTwo, is current making flight tests, and all in all, the project, masterminded by Scaled Composites aviation guru Burt Rutan, looks to be on target for passenger flights in a few years.
SpaceShipTwo, the swivel-wing craft that will fly passengers to the edge of space and back, is still under construction. Plans are for an official unveiling of the finished spacecraft towards the end of this year.
Now, we’ve visited Guinness and the comp isn’t posted yet, so keep checking for information. Meantime, here's a cgi movie to watch (top) and a pic taken in the Guinness rooftop Gravity Bar, in Dublin. It’s appropriately named for us spacefans, but more likely to be connected with the brewing term, ‘specific gravity’. Other prizes offered by Guinness in the comp include a deep-sea dive off Norway, and a private session with the band Black-Eyed Peas.
